Astros vs. Athletics Prediction and Odds for Sunday, July 10 (Expect Competitive, Low-Scoring Game)
By Joe Summers
The 29-57 Oakland Athletics hope to pick up a series win over Houston as they host the 55-29 Astros today at 4:07 PM EST.
Cole Irvin aims to give Oakland a second-consecutive win after allowing only one run over eight innings to the Blue Jays last week. He's got a sparkling 1.49 ERA at home, though the Athletics are 1-9 in his last 10 starts.
Houston turns to Jake Odorizzi, who allowed nine hits and five runs to the Royals in a disastrous return from the Injured List.
Can Odorizzi settle into a groove or will Irvin lead the A's to a series victory?

Astros vs Athletics Prediction and Pick
This is an interesting game, as I have faith in Houston's lineup, but also the Athletics' starting pitcher. Jake Odorizzi looked terrible against Kansas City last week and I don't expect him to go deep in this game. Oakland's lineup is far from threatening, but the A's have won three of four as home underdogs and kept their recent matchups competitive.
Cole Irvin is a dominant pitcher at home with a 1.49 ERA. He held Houston to one run over 5.2 innings back in May and allowed three runs or fewer in 11 of his last 13 starts overall.
Because of Irvin's home excellence and Oakland's offensive ineptitude, I'm inclined to back the under. It's 21-8-1 in the Astros' last 30 as a road favorite, 9-3 in Irvin's last dozen starts and 7-1 in the A's last eight overall.
But I'll also back Oakland on the run line. Irvin should have a significant edge over Odorizzi and with the way the A's are keeping games competitive, I like the value on the home underdog.
Pick: Athletics +1.5 (-110) and Under 8.0 (-105)
