Astros vs. Braves Prediction and Odds for Sunday, August 21 (Go OVER Between World Series Teams)
By Reed Wallach
The 2022 World Series rematch wraps up on Sunday.
Both the defending champion Atlanta Braves and AL champs Houston Astros have lived up to the hype in 2022, each boasting prolific offenses, but what about the pitching staffs of both clubs?
Before we get to our best bets for Sunday's finale, let's look at the odds from consensus sportsbooks:
Astros vs. Braves Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Astros: +1.5 (-170)
- Braves: -1.5 (+145)
Moneyline:
- Astros: +125
- Braves: -145
Total:
8 (Over -110/Under -110)
Astros vs. Braves Prediction and Pick
While much has been made about the two offenses, both are part of the top six in wRC+ this month, I find myself siding with both pitching staffs to keep the runs to a minimum in the series finale.
We'll start with Braves starter Charlie Morton, who is coming off one of his best outings of the season, pitching 6.2 innings of shutout ball while striking out 12 Mets batters. Now, he gets an Astros lineup that is as strong as the Mets but I'll ride with his fine form that includes three shutout performances in his last five starts.
On the other side, Jose Urquidy is starting to find a rhythm ahead of the postseason. The Astros righty has a 2.51 ERA across five starts since the All-Star Break, The key has been less traffic on the base paths for Urquidy, who has seen his WHIP drop from 1.247 to 0.835. Yes, the Braves offense is more than capable of knocking around Urquidy, but I'll trust him to keep control of this outing in a day game series finale.
Both pitchers enter pitching the best of their respective season, and I'll trust them to best the opposing offense and go under on Sunday.
LEAN: UNDER 8 (-110)
