Astros vs. Yankees Prediction and Odds for June 25 (Gerrit Cole Will Shine Brightest in the Bronx)

Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole once occupied the same starting rotation, but now pitch for rival AL contenders. Last night, Verlander showed he still belongs in the upper echelon of AL pitchers with a dominant seven innings. He allowed just one run on four hits. Today, Cole will look to match his former teammate and get New York back into the win column.

Cole is opposed by Christian Javier for the Astros. Cole is 6-1 on the year and Javier comes in at 4-3. The Yankees lead the AL East at 52-19, and Houston is first in the West, 44-26.

Astros vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick

Gerrit Cole has a 3.14 ERA on the year, but that is heavily inflated by his outing on June 9th when Minnesota touched him up for seven runs in 2.1 innings. Other than that, it has been another great year for Cole where he is in contention to win that elusive Cy Young award.

On the other side, Javier has been stellar for Houston. He has a 3.07 ERA and that includes a relatively rough June. In his three starts this month, Javier’s ERA has ballooned from 2.41 at the end of May. He still has been a very effective pitcher for the Astros and will put up a fight against Cole and the Yankees lineup.

Anchoring that Yankees lineup is Aaron Judge, who recently settled his arbitration for this year at $19 million. Judge is the favorite for AL MVP at -110 in the WynnBET Sportsbook. He has 27 home runs, a 1.022 OPS and 184 weighted runs created +.

One player not going to be lost to free agency is Yordan Alvarez, who is locked up with the Astros until 2028. Alvarez is +1500 to win AL MVP. Certainly hurt by just being a DH, but his numbers are great at the plate. He has 22 homers, a 1.068 OPS and 203 WRC+.

The stars will be out in the Bronx today and I have to think Gerrit Cole will shine the brightest.

Pick: Yankees ML -160
