The ASUN Conference Tournament is set to begin on March 1, and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks and Liberty Flames hold the respective No. 1 seeds on each end of the bracket.

While the Gamecocks and Flames have both been solid this year, only one ASUN team will be able to claim the conference’s automatic bid. With mid-major conferences, the auto-bid is gold, as team’s don’t have to wait on the bubble to see if they hear their name called on Selection Sunday.

Let’s get into everything you need to know about the ASUN tournament, starting with the odds via WynnBET Sportsbook:

ASUN Conference Tournament Prediction and Pick

The odds suggest that this is a three-team race to win this conference tournament, and I’d lean in similar fashion.

According to KenPom, only Liberty, Jacksonville State and Jacksonville have positive adjusted efficiency margins this season. However, the Flames are just a class above, ranking No. 1 in the conference in offensive and defensive efficiency this season and leading the conference in effective field goal percentage.

Jacksonville State finished with a better record in the conference, but that had to do with the Flames limping to the finish this regular season with losses to FGCU, North Florida and Jacksonville.

However, I love that the bracket sets up so the flames don’t have to face Jacksonville or Jacksonville State until the final. I think that makes them the right pick here, unless you really feel strongly about one of the two other teams.

Lean: Liberty (+125)

ASUN Conference Tournament Dark Horse

If you’re looking for a dark horse to bet in the ASUN Tournament, North Florida at +6000 might be the right play to make.

I love the first-round matchup for North Florida, who has the best defensive efficiency and posts the best opponent effective field goal percentage in the conference, as it takes on a Lipscomb team that has the worst defense in the conference.

Yes, North Florida is second to last in offensive efficiency, but you can make up for that with strong defensive play and timely baskets in the postseason. I think North Florida is live to upset Lipscomb, setting up a date with a Liberty team it knocked off not too long ago.

I wouldn’t put all my chips in on the Osprey’s but they did beat both Jacksonville State and Liberty in the regular season and went 7-9 in the conference. If you’re looking for a long shot pick, this might be the one.
