The Bay Area battle continues from Oracle Park in San Francisco as the Giants look to extend their five game win streak vs. their rivals across the bridge in the Oakland Athletics.

Last night, the Giants took Game 1 of the series as Carlos Rodon continued his dominant season, mowing down nine A's in six innings of work in an 8-2 victory.

The A's got very little going last night offensively against Rodón and the Giants bullpen, but they should have a better opportunity to night in what sets up to be a bullpen game for San Francisco.

Sam Long gets the ball for the Giants, and has yet to allow an earned run through five appearances this season. He hasn't mowed down anyone, punching out just five batters in five innings pitched, and neither has the rest of the Giants' bullpen. Via Fangraphs, San Francisco's relievers average just 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings; fifth-worst in baseball. After averaging 12 per nine innings last night, that's a major relief for the A's hitters.

Paul Blackburn gets the start for Oakland this evening and he's been a bright spot in the early going. He's gone just five innings in three of his starts, but has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of them; striking out 14 while walking just one. His fielder independent pitching numbers (FIP) indicate that his 1.80 ERA should actually be better than what it is; coming in at 1.38.

I think there's value here on Oakland to surprise on the road; and take advantage of the Giants' inability to get swings-and-misses with their relievers.
