The Cleveland Guardians snapped back into form over the last two weeks after falling below .500 in the final weeks of May. While they are still fighting their way towards a winning record, Cleveland is back in second place in the AL Central. This is thanks to a 7-2 record in their previous two series and a terrible division around them.

The Guardians have another easy series to play now that the Oakland Athletics are in town. The A’s and Guardians kicked off a four-game set last night. Leading into this series, Oakland went on a 1-11 slide and is a hard team to trust right now.

Athletics vs. Guardians Prediction and Pick

The A’s are in a spot today that is one of the more annoying to me personally as a baseball prognosticator. They are a bad team with a really good pitcher on the mound -- at least that was the case up until last week. Paul Blackburn was a revelation for this team over his first two months with a sub 2.50 ERA over April in May. However, Blackburn struggled big-time over his last two starts, allowing eight earned runs in his last 10 ⅔ innings of work. I’m not ready to give up on him, but he’s far from an automatic win after losing two in a row to the Red Sox and Astros.

As much as I want to back the A’s in this spot as road dogs, there is too much going against them. Triston McKenzie will make the start for Cleveland and has been fantastic aside from his last trip to the mound. But, I expect him to bounce back after giving up five runs in seven innings against a bad Orioles team. McKenzie has a stellar .183 batting average against the current A’s lineup and I don’t expect much drama from him here.

Pick: Guardians ML
