Athletics vs. Mariners Prediction and Odds for Thursday, June 30 (Side With Logan Gilbert to Dominate Oakland)

The Oakland Athletics will look to break up a three-game losing streak when they open a three-game set against the Seattle Mariners tonight. The A’s were predictably swept by the MLB-leading Yankees earlier in the week. And while the Mariners are among the worst teams in MLB, they look like the 1927 Yankees compared to the Athletics. The Mariners are 4th in the AL West, while the A’s are fifth. But, the M’s hold an 11-game lead over Oakland heading into this series. That should give you an idea of just how bad the A’s are with only 25 wins on the season.

Athletics vs. Mariners Prediction and Pick

Not only are the A’s one of the worst teams in recent memory, but they will also have to deal with Logan Gilbert on the hill for Seattle. Gilbert has been a revelation for the Mariners this year and is the type of player to build a franchise around. Gilbert is 8-3 with a 2.44 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 88 ⅔ innings. These numbers are even more impressive considering how bad the team is that he's playing for. Getting the Mariners eight wins is no easy task, but Gilbert somehow pulled it off. 

Adrian Martinez will face off against Gilbert tonight in a battle of young guns looking to make their mark on the league. Martinez impressed in his MLB debut on Tuesday with a 5 ⅓ inning shutout against the Detroit Tigers. But, the Tigers are awful and Martinez needs to pass a real test to gain my trust. While I don’t think the Mariners fall into that category, I am still interested in seeing if Martinez can keep pace with Gilbert.

Martinez may develop into a stud, but it's too early to side with him against a proven talent like Gilbert.
