Athletics vs. Red Sox Prediction and Odds for June 14 (Boston will Crush Koenig)
By Josh Yourish
The Red Sox are big favorites at home against Oakland on Tuesday night. Boston has won nine of its last 11, and are currently fourth in the AL East, but in the last wild card spot. Baltimore is the only team in that division outside of the playoffs.
The Red Sox will have Nick Pivetta on the mound in game one of the three-game series, which kicks off a nine game homestand.
Oakland will go with Jared Koenig in his second major league start at 28 years old. Koenig made his debut against the Braves on June 8th. He made his way from independent league baseball, to Australia before signing a minor league deal with the A’s in 2020.

Athletics vs. Red Sox Prediction and Pick
Jared Koenig’s journey to the big leagues is a really nice story, but the Braves introduced him to the show by tagging him for four runs in just four innings pitched. The A’s are 21-41, and there is a reason that Koenig has been able to make their roster after spending so much time in independent league baseball. Boston will likely remind him of that the same way Atlanta did.
Against the Braves, Koenig allowed a hard hit rate of 53.8% well above the league average of 35.6% that coincided with an average exit velocity six MPH above league average.
The Red Sox lineup crushes left-handed pitching, J.D. Martinez and Trevor Story specifically. As a team, they have an OPS of .744 against left-handers and at home they are at their best with a .757 OPS compared to .702 on the road.
Koenig is a northern California native and I bet he will be excited to get back there after this trip to Fenway.
Pick: Boston -1.5 (-110)
