Athletics vs. Tigers Prediction and Odds for Monday, May 9 (Fade Detroit as Home Favorites)
By Reed Wallach
After bringing some hype into 2022, the Tigers have struggled out of the gate.
Detroit is 8-19 on the season, way off pace from their AL Wild Card aspirations heading into the season. Now, they host the Oakland Athletics, who have begun a rebuild this season but still outpacing the Tigers.
Oakland will start Paul Blackburn, one of the early season stars of the club in 2022, can he handle a porous Tigers lineup? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Athletics vs. Tigers Odds, Run Line, Total
Run Line:
- Athletics: +1.5 (-190)
- Tigers: -1.5 (+155)
Moneyline:
- Athletics: +110
- Tigers: -120
Total: 7 (Over -110/Under -110)
Athletics vs. Tigers Prediction and Pick
Blackburn has been stellar this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.22 ERA. The key for him has been his limited walk rate. Blackburn has walked just over 1 batter per 9 innings while also striking out nearly 2 more batters than 2021.
The Tigers don't have much going for them on offense, and will likely struggle against the surging Blackburn. The team is bottom 10 in baseball in batting average and 26th in wRC+ which means the team is struggling to generate any sort of run scoring chances.
Oakland's offense is just as bad, 29th in wRC+, but I can't trust Michael Pineda as a favorite with the Tigers poor bullpen. While he has a 3.77 ERA, Pineda's FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) is north of 5.00, meaning that he has been bailed out by his teammates in the field.
I'll take a shot on A's as small road underdogs.
LEAN: Athletics +110
