Athletics vs. Yankees Prediction and Odds for Wednesday, June 29 (A's Can't Keep Yankees Lineup Down)
By Matt De Saro
It’s Wednesday and that means we can finally close out this series between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics.
Don’t get me wrong, as a Yankee fan I’m happy to watch them beat up on bad teams. But, it doesn’t make for the most entertaining viewing experience when the best team in baseball goes up against the worst. The A’s did put up a fight in Game 1, but eventually fell to the Bronx Bombers 9-5. I can’t say I expect this game to go any different as the Yankees look to continue dominating the league.
Here are the odds for this game from consensus sportsbooks.
Athletics vs. Yankees Odds, Run Line, and Total
Run Line
- Athletics: +1.5 (+120)
- Yankees: -1.5 (-145)
Moneyline:
- Athletics: +252
- Yankees: -285
Total:
- Total 8 (Over -120/Under +100)
Athletics vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick
Jameson Taillon will make his 15th start of the year for New York boasting an 8-1 record, 3.19 ERA, and 1.11 WHIP. Life can't get much easier for a starting pitcher than pulling a game against the A’s, and Taillon should feast on this lineup today.
Oakland ranks 30th in batting average, 29th in runs per game, and 28th in home runs. They are teetering on the edge of being the worst team in the MLB and this series against the Yankees might push them over that line. Taillon’s career numbers against this lineup are as you’d expect. The A’s are hitting just .103 against the Taillon with five strikeouts and no walks.
Cole Irvin will get the start for Oakland in a very tough spot against this Yankee lineup. Irvin has decent numbers this year at 2-5 with a 3.29 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. However, he’s done a lot of good work against bad teams. When it comes time to quiet an above-average offense, things fall apart. He is also susceptible to the long ball, with two multi-HR games in his last four starts. This could spell disaster for him against the hard-hitting Yankees.
There is no rational reason to go against the Yankees here and thankfully they are getting a decent price on the RL at home.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-145)
