Auburn vs. Stanford Prediction and Odds for June 20 (Stanford Stays Alive in Omaha)
By Josh Yourish
Both the Auburn Tigers and Stanford Cardinal lost in their first matchup in Omaha on Saturday. Auburn fell to Ole Miss and Stanford to Arkansas.
That sets up an elimination game on Monday afternoon between the Tigers and the Cardinal. All the higher seeds lost in the first round of play in Omaha. Now, No. 2 Stanford and No. 14 Auburn will have to fight for their postseason lives in the losers bracket.
Stanford is 4-0 all-time versus Auburn and most recently defeated the Tigers in the 1997 College World Series.

Auburn vs. Stanford Prediction and Pick
Things got out of hand in game one for Stanford. The Cardinal remained even with Arkansas 1-1 through four innings, but the Razorbacks blew it open from there getting to starting pitcher Alex Williams tagging him with four more runs. His final line was 4.1 innings pitched, allowing five runs on eight hits. From there it seemed like the Razorbacks signed an NIL deal with Geico because they got all the insurance runs, winning it 17-2.
The good news for Stanford is that it preserved Quinn Mathews, not going to him out of the bullpen in the blowout. Mathews has been a bullpen ace for Stanford, he has made nine starts, but is more often used for three or so innings out of the pen as a super reliever. Think Andrew Miller for Cleveland in the 2016 playoffs. Mathews has a team best 2.62 ERA and 9-1 record.
Joseph Gonzalez went for Auburn on Friday and pitched well for 5.0 innings, only giving up four runs. Auburn just managed four hits in the 5-1 loss to Ole Miss. Today the Tigers will likely turn to Mason Barnett, who won the third game of their Super Regional matchup with Oregon State, or Trace Bright, who started the first game of that Super Regional, but could not get out of the first inning.
Regardless it will fall to the Auburn offense to have more of an output against Stanford. Sonny DiChiara is their offensive leader with a 1.354 OPS on the year. DiChiara had four RBI in the Super Regional, but only managed one hit against Ole Miss.
Stanford has the more lethal offense on paper, with a team OPS of .926 and 118 home runs on the year compared to just 36 allowed. Auburn only has 73 homers, DiChiara accounts for 22 of those, and the Tigers have allowed 69, with a team OPS of .834. Still solid numbers but not in the same ballpark as Stanford, and with Mathews as a weapon out of the bullpen to shut down any run from the Tigers, I like Stanford today.
Pick: Stanford -1.5 (+115)
