Back Padres Futures Right Now with San Diego Reported Favorites to Land Juan Soto at MLB Trade Deadline
By Ben Heisler
It's already unfair to the 29 other Major League teams when they step into the batter's box against the San Diego Padres and see Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. patrolling the left side of the infield.
Now add 23-year old superstar into the equation. How in the world are you supposed to complete against THAT lineup?
The Padres, according to ESPN's Buster Olney are reported to be the frontrunner to landing this year's Run Derby champion in a deal ahead of the MLB Trade Deadline. Soto is expected to fetch a king's ransom in return for Washington with three years left on his rookie contract in Washington.
The Nationals are reportedly looking to move Soto at maximum value after reportedly turning down a 15-year contract extension worth more than $440 million total.
Padres Could Be the Perfect Buy Low Bet to Win the World Series
Right now at WynnBET Sportsbook, the Padres are +2000 to win the World Series, tied for seventh on the board with the Milwaukee Brewers. Some books have them even longer than that!
Here's how the latest World Series odds at WynnBET currently stand for all teams in realistic contention for a playoff birth:
- Yankees +350
- Astros +400
- Dodgers +400
- Mets +750
- Braves +1000
- Blue Jays +1200
- Brewers +2000
- Padres +2000
- Rays +3000
- White Sox +4000
- Twins +4000
- Cardinals +4000
- Phillies +5000
- Mariners +5000
- Red Sox +6000
- Giants +6000
- Guardians +10000
- Orioles +20000
With reports that Tatis Jr. could return to the Padres lineup as early as August 5-7 vs. the L.A Dodgers, San Diego could be a perfect candidate to get hot over the final several weeks of the regular season.
Over at DraftKings Sportsbook, the Padres remain a massive favorite to make the postseason; listed at -450 to make the playoffs, compared to +350 to miss them. Fangraphs' playoff odds have San Diego at 84.9% to make the playoffs, and still give it a sliver of hope to catch up to the Dodgers at 1.9% to win the NL West.
San Diego's odds will soar if it ends up with Soto, so if you're willing to buy low now, the final outcome could be massive if the favorites come through to land him in a deal.
