Ball State vs. Akron Prediction, Odds, Spread and Over/Under for College Football Week 10

The Ball State Cardinals (4-4) are coming off a bye week, but prior to that bye, the Cardinals took a 24-17 loss at home to the Miami (OH) RedHawks. That loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Ball State. 

Ball State will go on the road to face the Akron Zips in Week 10.

Akron (2-6) lost their last two games, losing to the Buffalo Bulls 45-10 on Oct. 23. The Zips will also be fresh off a bye in Week 10. Akron has lost back-to-back games three times this season, and will look to pull off an upset win over Ball State to avoid its first three-game losing streak.

Ball State vs. Akron Prediction and Pick

Akron has been absolutely awful in recent years, and while they are still a bad team, it would appear that they’re starting to trend in the right direction. To be fair, there was nowhere to go but up for this football program.

The -15.5 point spread seems a little steep. I don’t think that Akron is as bad as they used to be, and Ball State certainly isn’t a powerhouse either. 

The Cardinals are averaging 24.5 points per game, and Akron has been allowing 38.9 points per game, but the Zips defensive weak point has been their rushing defense, and Ball State is not that good at rushing; collecting 116.4 rushing yards per game, ranked 108th in College Football.

If Akron can contain the Cardinal’s quarterback Drew Plitt, they should be able to cover the spread. It’s not impossible for the Zips to walk away with a win in this one, especially if their offense can get some early scores.
