Ball State vs. Kent State Prediction and Odds for College Football Week 10 (Golden Flashes Set to Score in Bunches)
By Reed Wallach
The Kent State Golden Flashes played a brutal non conference schedule that featured trips to Georgia and Washington, but it hasn't led to overwhelming MAC success just yet with a 2-2 record in league play.
The team plays host to Ball State on Tuesday night as they chase Toledo for the top of the West division. Which team will get over .500 and stay within earshot of a MAC Championship bid?
Let's break down the odds and find out:
Ball State vs. Kent State Odds, Spread and Total
Ball State vs. Kent State Betting Trends
- Both teams are 3-5 against the spread (ATS)
- Kent State games have gone UNDER in three of four that they were favored in
- Kent State is 1-3 as a favorite this season
Ball State vs. Kent State Prediction and Pick
This number opened with Kansas State laying 4.5, but has shifted to 6.5 in favor of the Golden Flashes. At this point, I can't back Kent State, but I do see value in taking the over at 61.5.
Both teams are inside the top 20 in terms of plays per minute and each struggle to limit big plays. Kent State has shown plenty of ability to run the ball this season, ranking 27th in EPA/Play on the ground and is averaging nearly five yards per carry. Ball State's defense is 91st in explosive rush defense.
On the other side, the Ball State offense bolsters a stout offensive line that has allowed only seven sacks on the season. While John Paddock leaves some to be desired at quarterback, the team has been chucking it through the air all season, top 30 in pass rate on the season, and will challenge a porous Kent State secondary that allows more than nine yards per pass attempt and a near-70% completion percentage.
The pace should be fast and with Ball State's propensity to pass, the clock should stop a lot and there should be plenty of possessions.
I like the over with Kent State being bet out of range.
