The Scottish Open isn't the only golf tournament taking place this week. The Barbasol Championship will also take place as an alternate field event that's co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

If you want my full betting preview and picks for the tournament, you can find that here.

In this article, we're going to stick to just the first round of the tournament. A fun and exciting wager to place is who will be leading the event at the conclusion of the first round. Let's take a look at the odds and then I'll give you my prediction.

Barbasol Championship First Round Leader Prediction

A golf tournament with this weak of a field is tough to predict to begin with, which makes trying to predict who will be the first round leader a near impossible task. It could quite literally be anyone, but I'm going to try to call my shot here.

I'll back Andrew Novak at +5000 to be at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round.

Novak, despite being a relatively unknown name with very limited success on the PGA Tour, has been lights out in the first round time and time again. In fact, he ranks seventh on Tour in first round scoring average at 69.21.

Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Adam Scott, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, and Stephan Jaeger are the only golfers on Tour this year that have a better first round scoring average than Novak. To make it even better, none of those golfers are competing in this alternate field event.

Let's also remember he had an impressive 9th place finish at the Canadian Open last month.

Let's roll with Novak.
