The Baylor Bears and Texas Tech Red Raiders are both 4-3 and coming off of crucial conference wins. Both teams are 2-2 in the Big 12, and while it doesn’t seem like Baylor will be repeating as conference champs, it does have a chance to fight its way closer to the top of the conference.

With Kansas State, TCU, and Texas remaining on the schedule, Baylor could wreak havoc down the stretch.

Baylor vs. Texas Tech Prediction and Pick

Blake Shapen returned from injury for Baylor last week and got the win over Kansas, but he didn’t look great in the process. Shapen threw for 164 yards, one touchdown and two picks. It was his worst performance of the season, but he didn’t need to be sharp.

Richard Reese ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. The Baylor offense is 19th in the country in scoring and should put up some points this week with Shapen a week healthier.

Speaking of a quarterback getting healthy, Tyler Shough is set to make his return from a clavicle injury he suffered in the season opener. Shough ceded the job to Dovonan Smith when he got hurt, but Behren Morton has since taken over.

Last week Morton impressed, throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns in Tech’s 48-10 win over West Virginia. It's unclear whether Shough will take back his starting job or if Morton has permanently grabbed the reigns.

Whoever is the quarterback for Texas Tech, I expect the team to put up points. Their offense is ninth in the nation in total yards per game. Texas Tech’s defense ranks 72nd and Baylor’s defense is 55th in points per game. This should be high scoring and I like the over in a classic Big 12 shootout. I also like Baylor to win with a potential QB controversy hanging over Lubbock.

Pick: Over 62.5 (-107)
