Two teams that are expected to struggle in the 2022 regular season will face-off in Week 2 of the NFL preseason on Thursday night.

Geno Smith’s Seattle Seahawks host Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears, and one key player will be missing from Seattle’s lineup.

After an impressive preseason debut where he threw two touchdowns, quarterback Drew Lock (COVID-19) is out for Thursday’s game. This could hurt him in the quarterback battle with Smith, but if the Seahawks are smart, playing the younger quarterback is probably the right move for 2022.

The Bears won their first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Fields played sparingly in that matchup. Does Chicago feel comfortable enough with him to limit his reps all preseason?

Despite Lock getting ruled out, we haven’t seen much movement in the odds. Here’s the latest from WynnBET for this preseason Week 2 game:

Bears vs. Seahawks Odds, Spread and Total

Spread:

  • Bears +4 (-110)
  • Seahawks -4 (-110)

Moneyline:

  • Bears +160
  • Seahawks -195

Total:

  • 39.0 (Over -110/Under -110)

Bears vs. Seahawks Odds, Spread and Total Movement in NFL Preseason Week 2

Even with Lock ruled out, the Seahawks have actually moved from -3.5 to -4 at WynnBET in this matchup. The total has dropped from 40.5 to 39.0, likely because Smith and the Seahawks' third-string quarterback, Jacob Eason,  will be running the show.

Bears vs. Seahawks Best Bet and Prediction

I find it interesting that the odds didn’t move at all in the Bears’ favor with Lock ruled out, especially since Chicago has a proven backup quarterback in Trevor Siemian.

I doubt the Bears risk Fields getting hurt in this game, but it’s worth noting that Seattle was torched by the trio of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterbacks in its first preseason game.

Pete Carroll will likely get a longer look at Geno Smith, but Jacob Eason gives me very little confidence in Seattle putting up 25 points for the second straight week.

With the total moving down, I think this is a spot to back the Bears as four-point dogs. Not only do you get through that key number of 3, but Chicago dominated the third quarter in its last preseason game with Siemian playing and throwing two scores.

If you’re telling me that it's going to be Siemian vs. Eason in the second half, I’m taking Siemian every time.

Lean: Bears +4 (-110)
