Bengals vs. Steelers Prediction: Mike Tomlin is an ATM as a Home Underdog

There’s just something about the appendix.

When it’s working right it has no effect on the body, but if it bursts then it has a big impact on the AFC North. Joe Burrow’s appendix burst this offseason and it forced him to miss the entire preseason. In Week 1 against the Steelers the rust showed as he tossed four interceptions and a 23-20 Steelers overtime win. Minkah Fitzpatrick took one of those four Burrow interceptions to the house, but last week, it was Steelers star safety who needed an appendectomy.

Fitzpatrick is trying to find a way back onto the field to torment Burrow and to try and help the Steelers win as home underdogs.

The Bengals opened as 2.5 point favorites on the road coming out of their bye week, but now they sit as 3.5 or 4 point favorites depending on the book.

Fitzpatrick wasn’t the only Steeler who was great in the first matchup with the Bengals,  TJ Watt was a monster up front. He only had one sack and two pressures, but he also had two batted balls, six tackles, and a pick. Watt returned last week after missing several game with a torn pec and was his typical self. He really opens up the pass rush for the Steelers, his teammate Alex Highsmith has five of his 8.5 sacks in the two games that Watt has played. The Bengals offensive line isn’t a total train wreck like last season, but that problem isn’t solved by any stretch. 

If the Steelers win this game it will be because of defense and Mike Tomlin. Tomlin is so good at getting his team up for these type of games and frankly the trends say that you simply cannot bet against him in this spot. 

He’s covered nine straight times as a home dog and has won the game outright seven of those nine times. I’m going home this weekend and I’ll be at this game, so we have to ride with the Steelers.
