Day 3 of the French Open features a local product matching up against an American who is struggling to find his footing on clay during this swing.

No. 27 in the world Frances Tiafoe enters his first round matchup against Benjamin Bonzi as a considerable favorite, but will be in for a stiff test against the French product on his home soil. Bonzi has had more success at Roland-Garros, beating the likes Daniil Medvedev (2017) and Emil Ruusuvuori (2020) at the Grand Slam.

The Roland-Garros crowd will surely be behind him as he is set to face off against Tiafoe, who dropped his last 3 matches heading into the French Open.

Who will advance? Let's check out the odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Benjamin Bonzi vs. Frances Tiafoe Prediction and Pick

Bonzi has showcased the better form at this event and I'm going to side with him to pull the upset behind his native crowd. While Tiafoe is ranked higher, he is in shaky form at the moment, dropping 6 consecutive sets on clay.

He is 0-6 in the first round of the French Open, and will be playing against a formidable opponent in Bonzi. While the Frenchman spends most of his time on the challenger circuit, he has thrived, recently winning the AIX En Provence Challenger on May 9th in straight sets.

He did lose in qualifications, getting in as a lucky loser, but before that rattled off 7 straight victories. Overall, I think Tiafoe is on upset alert with two men going in opposite directions on clay. Bonzi has stepped up at Roland-Garros and performed and think we see a strong showing yet again. I'm expecting plenty of break opportunities and likely a long match, but for Bonzi to eek it out in a 5th set.

LEAN: Bonzi +140, OVER 38.5 GAMES
