Best and Worst MLB Teams to Bet on the Run Line
Now that we're in the final two months of the MLB season, we have plenty of data to help us decide who to bet on a daily basis.
Run line is one of the most popular types of bets to place, especially when the moneyline odds are lopsided. To cash a run line bet on a favorite, you need them to win by at least two runs. If you're on the underdog, they can still lose by one run, and your bet will be a winner.
Let's take a look at the top 10 and bottom 10 MLB teams on the run line so far in 2022.
Top MLB Run Line Teams
- Orioles 72-38 (+27.05 units)
- Dodgers 69-41 (+25.65 units)
- Mets 63-49 (+16.80 units)
- Diamondbacks 63-47 (+13.40 units)
- Rangers 63-47 (+11.10 units)
- Cardinals 61-49 (+9.05 units)
- Rockies 61-52 (+2.35 units)
- Phillies 58-52 (+6.10 units)

Worst MLB Run Line Teams
- Nationals 47-66 (-28.10 units)
- Brewers 46-64 (-22.90 units)
- White Sox 48-63 (-15.55 units)
- Tigers 50-62 (-20.65 units)
- Blue Jays 48-62 (-18.75 units)
- Padres 53-61 (-9.95 units)
- Giants 50-61 (-17.55 units)
- Marlins 49-61 (-21.10 units)
- Yankees 52-60 (-9.80 units)
- Angels 53-59 (-9.75 units)
It's important to remember when looking at the above figures, that when you bet on the underdog on the run line, you're getting a smaller payout than if you're betting on the favorite. That's why there are a handful of teams that you might be surprised to see in the top 10, like the Orioles, Diamondbacks, and Rangers.
It's also why a team like the Brewers, ranks so low. They have 58 wins on the season, but only 38 of them have come by 2+ runs. That leads to an extremely low run line rate, especially considering they're favorites in a majority of their games. The result, is the second-worst run line ranking amongst all Major League teams.
