Best Bets to Advance to the Final Four (Who Comes Out of Each Region?)
By Matt De Saro
The 2021-22 NCAA Tournament is upon us with weeks of exciting games to follow. With Selection Sunday behind us, the odds for March Madness are out. WynnBET Sportsbook has compiled an updated rundown of all 68 teams and their odds to win one of the four regions they were slotted into.
As is the case every year, there are a lot of favorites getting attention, along with worthy dark horse candidates.
2022 Men's East Region Winner (Best Finish Non-NJ)
- Kentucky +150
- Baylor +250
- Purdue +400
- UCLA +400
- Saint Mary's +2000
- Texas +2000
- North Carolina +2000
- Virginia Tech +2000
- Indiana +4000
- Murray State +5000
- Marquette +5000
- San Francisco +5000
- Wyoming +10000
- Akron +10000
- Yale +20000
- Norfolk State +20000
Baylor may have earned the No. 1 seed in the East but it’s the Kentucky Wildcats that the oddsmakers have pegged as favorites. The Bears are the reigning champions and were the last undefeated team in the nation. But injuries took their toll and left the Bears shorthanded indefinitely. Luckily they have great depth and still have the talent to earn this No. 1 seed.
Another intriguing option is the UCLA Bruins. UCLA had a fantastic run to the Final Four last year and returned all five starters from that team. I think that of all the regions, the East has the biggest chance for the favorites to fail. The Wildcats are the best team but have a very tough path to win the regions.
Lean: UCLA +400
2022 Men's Midwest Region Winner
- Kansas +150
- Auburn +250
- Iowa +400
- Wisconsin +1200
- LSU +1500
- USC +2500
- Providence +3000
- San Diego State +3000
- Creighton +3000
- Miami FL +4000
- Iowa State +4000
- South Dakota State +7500
- Richmond +10000
- Colgate +10000
- Jacksonville State +20000
- Texas Southern +25000
- Texas A-M CC +25000
Of all the teams on this list aside from Gonzaga, I feel the best about Kansas making it out of the Region on top. This is not only because they are an extremely talented team, but also they got very lucky with the draw here.
The other contenders have red flags that would keep me from getting them. Auburn has slowed noticeably over the last couple of weeks, Providence is a team with no clear leader, and Wisconsin is a team with only one real scoring option. Kansas is well-rounded and has the depth required to make a run at the Final Four.
Pick: Kansas +150
2022 Men's West Region Winner (Best Finish Non-NJ)
- Gonzaga -160
- Duke +400
- Texas Tech +500
- Arkansas +1200
- Connecticut +1500
- Alabama +3000
- Michigan State +3000
- Memphis +3000
- Boise State +5000
- Notre Dame +5000
- Davidson +10000
- New Mexico State +10000
- Vermont +10000
- Montana State +15000
- Cal State Fullerton +20000
- Georgia State +20000
Gonzaga is the only team in any region that has non-plus-money odds to win their region. This makes sense as the Bulldogs find themselves as the overall No. 1 seed. Gonzaga has won more games in the NCAA tournament than any other team in the last 10 years. Gonzaga has made the Sweet 16 in six straight tournaments along with two trips to the national championship game during that time. While they haven’t yet come away with a title win, they are a worthy favorite to run through this region.
Pick: Gonzaga -160
2022 Men's South Region Winner (Best Finish Non-NJ)
- Arizona +140
- Villanova +300
- Tennessee +400
- Houston +600
- Illinois +800
- Ohio State +3000
- Michigan +3000
- Loyola Chicago +4000
- TCU +5000
- Colorado State +6000
- UAB +10000
- Chattanooga +15000
- Longwood +20000
- Delaware +20000
- Bryant +25000
- Wright State +25000
I tried to stay away from the chalk in these picks but the fact is that these No. 1 seeds feel more dominant than years past. Perhaps no team personifies that more than Arizona in the South Region. I think there is a good chance that Arizona and Villanova meet up in the Elite Eight to decide this Region without much drama in the early rounds. Therefore, this bet comes down to who I think wins that game.
I don’t think Nova can hang with Arizona on the interior and I don’t see any other team having what it takes to knock off the top seed.
Lean: Arizona +140
