Home Run Picks for Saturday, April 9

  • Aaron Judge (+230) vs. Boston Red Sox
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr (+300)
  • Will Smith (+330)

Aaron Judge - Yankees (+230) vs. Red Sox

ALL RISE!

It’s time for Judge to get the season off to a great start with a homer today. He has 16 home runs in his career against the Red Sox in 67 games. That’s a really good ratio.

With both starters coming into today’s game struggling a little bit, this is a chance for Judge to get the Yanks on the board early and show off his power. -- Donnavan Smoot

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - Blue Jays (+300) vs. Rangers

The second-generation superstar wasted no time playing his way into the upper echelon of MLB talent. One area that Guerrero specifically excels in is hitting home runs. I guess it runs in the family.

Last season, Guerrero smacked 48 homers and finished tied with Salvador Perez for the league lead. But, me adding him here goes deeper than a breakout power season in 2021. A major factor here is that the Texas Rangers are starting Dane Dunning tonight. Dunning has been below-average at best for his entire career in the majors. And, if his 10.80 Spring Training ERA is any indication, he has not turned things around in the offseason.

Despite being a righty vs. righty matchup, Vlad Jr. crushes right-handed pitching. Last season he hit .317 against righties with 37 of his 48 home runs coming against RHP. I think this matchup bodes well for him to smack his first dinger of 2022. -- Matt De Saro

Will Smith - Dodgers (+330) vs. Rockies

Let's just get this groaner out of the way. Will Smith does not intend to "slap" the ball around at Coors Field for the Dodgers tonight.

L.A.'s catcher went 1 for 3 with a hit in the Dodgers' season opener in Colorado and looks to continue to build on his outstanding 2021 campaign, finishing second at his position in several key offensive categories, including home runs.

Smith, despite being right-handed, had the bulk of his power come against right-handers a season ago; hitting 19 of his 25 dingers against right-handed pitching. Via MLB Statcast data, against right-hander German Marquez, Smith is projected for an expected slugging percentage (xSLG) of .476; trailing only Chris Taylor (.594) at the top of the lineup.

The conditions are ideal at Coors for several players to pop off, so let's back the catcher for some added value. -- Ben Heisler
