The Lightning are fighting for their season and trying to keep the hope of a Stanley Cup three-peat alive when they face the Avalanche tonight in Colorado. Tampa Bay is down 3-1 in this series after a controversial overtime loss in Game 4 and now faces the tough task of stealing a road win after losing by the combined score of 11-3 in the first two games of the series.

We already made our pick for this game with BetSided editor Donnavan Smoot taking the Avalanche to finish it off. But here, we'll examine some prop bets to consider with odds coming from WynnBET.

Lightning vs Avalanche Prop Bets for Game 5

  • OVER 6.0 Goals (+100)
  • Avalanche First Period -0.5 (+140)
  • First Period OVER 1.5 Goals (-130)

OVER 6.0 Goals (+100)

The first two games in Colorado went OVER this number and three of four in the series have too. Even in an elimination game where Tampa Bay will likely want to play it tighter, I don't see a scenario where this is a low-scoring game. It's just not Colorado's style, and they have dictated the pace of play in this series.

The Avalanche have scored at least three goals in every game where they've had a chance to eliminate an opponent in these Stanley Cup Playoffs and are averaging 4.25 goals per game in these situations. They're averaging 4.4 goals per game at home in the playoffs and the total goal score average in Colorado during the playoffs is 7.

Avalanche First Period -0.5 (+140)

The Avalanche held leads after the first period in both home games this series and have held the lead in their last five of their last six home playoff games overall. Clearly this is a team that gets off to a hot start on their home ice and I don't see that trend changing with a chance to win the Cup at home on the line.

First Period OVER 1.5 Goals (-130)

I'm betting on goals being scored in the first period and this is a bit of a hedge on the Avalanche bet. I've already established they score at home, but this is in case the Lightning get one in too.

The OVER has hit on this number in three of the four Finals games. It's also hit in five of Colorado's last six home playoff games. With the Lightning dictating pace of play, I expect this to be an open first period with plenty of dangerous scoring chances. Now, we just need goals.
