Saturday's MLB slate is full of intrigue as milestones are within reach and playoff positioning is on the line.
Aaron Judge remains stuck on 60 home runs as he looks to tie and break Roger Marris' American League home run record, while teams like the New York Mets are attempting to wrap up the National League East after a heated summer race against the Atlanta Braves.
We got picks for every MLB game on Saturday, keep reading to check them out.
Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees Prediction and Best Bet
- Pick: New York Yankees ML
Like I said, it is always a closely contested game when these two teams meet. Nine of the 16 games that they have played prior to Friday’s contest have been settled by one run. The Yankees are not a very big favorite at home because of the questions on the mound in this game specifically, but there could be value on the Red Sox run line even around -150 odds.
German has essentially been resorted to just one inning of work at this point in the year. He has been good since returning from injury in July, but got bumped from the rotation momentarily for Frankie Montas as the pitching staff got healthy. Now, it seems that German is back after two straight outings of just one inning pitched. He has a 3.12 ERA and will be fresh after pitching 2.2 innings since September 7. I do have to wonder what it will do to him to be yanked from the rotation and then put back in within the same month. His confidence could be rattled.
Nick Pivetta has been a mainstay in the Boston rotation and is making his 31st start, but he has a 9.64 ERA against New York in four starts this season.
The questions about New York’s starter has actually moved the odds too far in Boston’s favor, to the point where my favorite play is New York on the moneyline. -- Josh Yourish
Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction and Best Bet
- Pick: Philadelphia Phillies ML
New York Mets vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction and Best Bet
- Pick: UNDER 6.5
This is just the 18th game this year the Mets will play against a team from the American League. So far, they haven’t fared so well. New York is 7-10 SU and 4-13 ATS. Those numbers may not be great, but they were against playoff teams like Houston, Seattle and the Yankees.
The Athletics are not that.
Oakland is 26-35 on the run line as a home underdog and 21-40 SU in that situation. They aren’t prepared to face one of the best teams in the National League.
The main reason we should back the Mets with no hesitation is because of who’s on the mound for them. Jacob deGrom is making his 10th start of the year, and I’ll back him against a sub-.500 team any day of the week.
With an ERA just over 2.00, trust deGrom to keep the Athletics’ offense suppressed and dormant today. -- Donnavan Smoot
