My partner's family lives near Omaha, Nebraska, and a familial situation necessitated a quick visit this morning. I was a bit irritated waking up early and hopping in the car, but once I started driving I noticed a sensational sunrise, complete with an enthralling lightning storm off in the distance.

Talk about beautiful! Now, I'm bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready to take down today's MLB slate with a parlay. Sometimes, you've just got to let nature get all "nature-y," you know?

It's worth mentioning that the last time we visited her family, I cashed a big parlay. I've got a good feeling about this one, folks. Without further ado, here are my favorite MLB parlay picks of the day, courtesy of odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:

Best MLB Parlay Picks Today

Cardinals vs Reds Over 9.5 (-105)

The last time Miles Mikolas pitched in Cincinnati, just last month, he surrendered six runs in just five innings of work. That outing accentuated Mikolas' issues on the road throughout the year, as the St. Louis Cardinals are a worrisome 2-7 in his last nine road starts.

I don't feel comfortable backing the Reds on the moneyline with newly-signed Chase Anderson serving as an opener for one of MLB's worst bullpens, but I do think we'll see plenty of runs. Cincinnati ranks fifth in OPS against right-handed pitchers at home this month and should take advantage of Mikolas' mistakes.

St. Louis is well-equipped to take advantage of Anderson's likely mistakes too, though. Anderson hasn't been an effective major league pitcher in several years, compiling a 6.75 ERA in 2021 and a 7.22 ERA in 2020. The Cardinals' lineup handily leads MLB in OPS since the All-Star Break, and it wouldn't shock me to see it nearly clear this total by itself.

In Anderson's last 11 starts, the over is 8-3. Look for that trend to continue in a rude "Welcome Back" game while Mikolas has similar struggles.

Cubs (+205) vs Blue Jays

We just talked about how good the Cardinals' offense is, so how about Javier Assad throwing four scoreless innings against it in his MLB debut for the Chicago Cubs last week? That's pretty darn good! Assad compiled a 1.56 ERA over his final three minor league starts prior to that debut, and now he catches a slumping Toronto Blue Jays team that's just 1-6 in its last seven games as home favorites.

Toronto has the second-worst OPS at home this month, so I have faith in Assad's ability to hurl another fine outing. At the least, Chicago shouldn't be +205, especially not against José Berríos. Berríos has a 7.08 ERA in August, with an MLB Statcast Pitching Profile that hardly inspires confidence:

Count on the Cubs to improve to 9-5 in their last 14 as underdogs as Assad outduels
Berríos.

Phillies -1.5 (-115) vs Diamondbacks

The Philadelphia Phillies are 6-1 in Ranger Suárez's last seven starts as he's ascended to one of the National League's most consistent pitchers. Getting an opportunity to back him on the road makes this run line too tantalizing to pass up.

In Suárez's last four road starts, he's allowed precisely one earned run. That's good for a 0.36 ERA, and I expect another dominant effort against an Arizona Diamondbacks lineup that has the second-worst OPS against left-handed pitchers this month.

The Phillies' rank fourth in that stat, while Madison Bumgarner has an 0-3 record and 7.94 ERA in August. He's been terrible. With how well Suárez is pitching combined with Bumgarner's implosion, I'm thrilled to round out this parlay backing Philly.

MLB Parlay for August 29, 2022

The "Bright-Eyed & Bushy-Tailed" Parlay (+1013)

  • Cardinals vs Reds Over 9.5 (-105)
  • Cubs (+205) vs Blue Jays
  • Phillies -1.5 (-115) vs Diamondbacks

That's what I'm talking about! Odds of +1013 pay out $253.32 on a $25 bet, and that's at least enough to get half a tank of gas for the drive back.

I love the value we're getting on each matchup here, targeting poor pitchers while backing two with promise. Be sure to check out the BetSided game previews throughout the day, but keep these picks in mind as you're locking those wagers in.

Best of luck as always - let's get after it!
