Padres ML (-220) vs. Rockies

The Rockies might be the best last-place team in the MLB right now. That isn't saying much though. But kudos to them for continuing to play hard and taking two of three from the Giants mid-week. Tonight at home, however, I think their luck against the NL West is going to run out with Joe Musgrove on the mound.

There is no exaggeration when I say that Musgrove is one of the best pitchers on the planet right now. He is 6-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over ten starts totaling 66 innings. He is in the hunt for a Cy Young and hasn’t had a bad game all year.

Musgrove has gone at least six innings in all ten starts and has not given up more than two runs in any of them. His last game was an epic eight-inning one-hitter against the Brewers. I usually am wary of guys coming off losing a no-hitter due to the extra strain of pitching upwards of 110 pitches. But Musgrove regularly reaches triple digits. He should cruise here despite the thin air in Denver.

Dodgers ML (-142) vs. Giants

The Dodgers clawed their way back to first place in the NL West over the San Diego Padres thanks to a few wins against the Chicago White Sox this week. The Dodgers are still losers of six of their last ten games but are in a prime bounce-back spot here. Walker Buehler will make his 12th start of the year boasting a 3.84 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 61 innings.

To be clear, I know Buehler was pretty bad in his last two starts with nine runs given up in his previous 8 ⅓ innings. But this guy has been here before and I’m not worried that Buehler will stay in this slump for long. Before last week, Buehler had a 2.91 ERA which was one of the major reasons the Dodgers were surging. With the Giants hitting just .211 against Buehler, look for him and LA to get back on track tonight.

Diamondbacks ML vs. Phillies (+125)

I don’t like to blame a coach for a team’s problems as much as many of my peers do. But, watching the Phillies go 6-0 after firing Joe Maddon is a hard figure to argue with. It’s easy to get carried away and think the Phillies are back in the groove. But, I want to see a bit more from them. Specifically how they handle Zac Gallen tonight

The 26-year-old sports a 2.40 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in his first ten starts of the year for Arizona. The D’backs are 6-2 in the last of Gallen’s starts and 3-1 in his last four. What I really like about Gallen in this spot is his fantastic 0.42 batting average when pitching against the current Phillies lineup. In fact, Bryce Harper is the only guy on this team to even have a hit against this guy. Let’s hope he can keep it rolling tonight against a streaking Phillies offense.
