Best MLB Parlay Picks Today (Two Favorites and Two Overs Set to Deliver Dollars)
By Joe Summers
As I survey the MLB landscape today, I can only see one thing: dollars.
There's 15 games scheduled with value all over the board, so I'm thrilled to jump into a lovely Sunday parlay to end our weekend with joy.
Who knows, maybe we can all quit our jobs after today and the Monday blues won't be so dark. Fingers crossed, anyway.
Let's jump into it. Using odds from WynnBET Sportsbook, here are my favorite MLB parlay picks of the day:
Best MLB Parlay Picks Today
Reds vs Pirates Over 8.5 (-120)
In this house, we fade Mike Minor. However, this is a special day, because Pittsburgh Pirates' starter Zach Thompson is nearly as bad as Minor. Thus, I don't feel comfortable taking Pittsburgh as a favorite. Instead, we'll take advantage of a light line and roll with the over.
Minor has a 6.32 ERA this month for the Cincinnati Reds. His 5.22 expected FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) would be the worst among all qualified starters if he had enough innings to qualify, and he allowed four runs to the Pirates just last month.
Yet somehow, Thompson is even worse of late. He's got a 9.71 ERA in his last six starts and didn't even record two outs last week before getting pulled. Just look at the poor guy's MLB Statcast Pitching Profile:
Revel in every loud crack of the bat as the over hits for the sixth straight Thompson start.
Mariners (-210) vs Athletics
The Seattle Mariners are a ridiculous 24-6 in their last 30 games as road favorites, including winning 14 of their last 16. Luis Castillo takes the hill with a 1.83 ERA over his last eight starts, all wins for his club. He's been sensational and should mow down an Oakland Athletics' lineup that ranks 27th in OPS against right-handed pitchers this month.
Look at him straight scare Shohei Ohtani here.
Meanwhile, JP Sears looks sharp for Oakland of late, but he's got an expected FIP above 4.48 in each of his last three starts. Seattle hits lefties well and should make Sears pay for his mistakes.
Back the Mariners to push the Athletics to 1-5 in their last six as home underdogs.
Nationals vs Padres Over 8.5 (-105)
This is my favorite play of the slate, as we get to fade Patrick Corbin and Sean Manaea at the same time! You can't ask for much more than that.
Corbin has a 9.44 ERA on the road this year and an expected FIP above 14.24 in each of his last two starts away from home. No, that wasn't a typo. He's genuinely MLB's worst starter and the over is 5-1 in his last six outings. Just for fun, take a peak at his MLB Statcast Pitching Profile, which just may be the worst I've seen this year:
YUCK. But Sean Manaea has been nearly as bad recently, compiling an obscene 9.69 ERA in August with a FIP above 5.29 in five of his last six starts. That'd be the worst mark in the league over the season, and Washington is hitting lefties well.
The over is 13-3-2 in Manaea's last 18 outings. Back that trend to continue in the highest-scoring game of the day.
Cardinals (-127) vs Diamondbacks
This is a fantastic price on the St. Louis Cardinals, who lead MLB in OPS this month and won the first two games of this series by a combined score of 21-8.
St. Louis won each of Jose Quintana's first three starts for the club and the Arizona Diamondbacks rank dead-last in OPS against left-handed pitchers this month. Arizona lost three of Merrill Kelly's last four outings, scoring just three runs total in those losses.
Kelly's numbers are solid, but the Cardinals' offense is too good and St. Louis has a significant bullpen advantage as well.
At this price, I just can't pass up one of the hottest teams in baseball.
MLB Parlay for August 21, 2022
The "Look at All Those Dollars" Parlay (+844)
- Reds vs Pirates Over 8.5 (-120)
- Mariners (-210) vs Athletics
- Nationals vs Padres Over 8.5 (-105)
- Cardinals (-127) vs Diamondbacks
Look at all that value! We'll see the dollars shortly, as odds of +844 pay out $211.10 on a $25 bet.
Perhaps not enough to quit our jobs, but we're surely on our way thanks to WynnBET.
Best of luck today folks - let's get after it!
