Best MLB Prop Bets for Padres vs. Mets in Game 3 of NL Wild Card (Chris Bassitt Primed for K's?)
By Peter Dewey
There’s just one playoff baseball game on Sunday, as the New York Mets and San Diego Padres play the final game of their series in the NL wild card. The winner advances to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
With just one game to bet on in MLB, why don’t we pull out all the stops and bet on some props?
Chris Bassitt (15-9, 3.42 ERA) gets the ball in this game against Padres All-Star Joe Musgrove (10-7, 2.93 ERA). I have a play for Bassitt’s strikeouts, my favorite home run prop and my favorite bet in general for today’s action.
Want to tail or fade me? Welcome along for the ride:
Best Prop Bets for Padres vs. Mets Game 3
- Chris Bassitt OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (+128)
- Juan Soto to Hit a Home Run (+460)
- San Diego Padres First Five Innings Moneyline (+112)
Chris Bassitt OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (+128)
Chris Bassitt may not have shut down the Padres in both of his starts against them this season, but he sure did strike them out plenty.
In his first start against San Diego, Bassitt allowed seven earned runs in 3.1 innings, but he still would have cleared this prop by striking out six batters. The veteran righty rebounded in his second outing against San Diego tossing seven innings of two-run ball and striking out 11.
Obviously, Bassitt is going to have a short leash with this being a win or go home game, but San Diego does strike out a lot, averaging over eight strikeouts per game this season.
Juan Soto to Hit a Home Run (+460)
San Diego Padres slugger Juan Soto has just three at bats against New York Mets starter Chris Bassitt in his career, but he’s picked up a hit in two of them.
Both teams have launched plenty of homers in this series, with eight homers occurring in the first two games. With the wind blowing out to right center field on Sunday night, I think Soto is a solid pick at over 4/1 odds to go yard, especially since Bassitt has given up nine runs in his two starts against San Diego this season
San Diego Padres First Five Innings Moneyline (+112)
Bassitt didn’t end the season as strong as they would have liked, as he posted two shaky outings against the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves with two solid performances sandwiched in between those games.
After New York blew the division, the team is desperate to at least advance to face Los Angeles. Winning 100 games to get knocked out in the wild card round would simply be brutal.
That being said, I think Joe Musgrove gives the Padres a slight advantage on the mound here. He was one of the best pitchers ERA-wise all season long, and he has a 0.41 ERA in his last four outings.
The Padres bullpen doomed them on Saturday, so rather than back them for the full game, I’ll take San Diego on the moneyline in the first five innings with Musgrove on the bump.
