Best MLB prop bets today (Back Luzardo at home)
By Josh Yourish
Happy Sunday to everyone out there, hopefully, it’s been an enjoyable summer weekend, and it certainly has been if you bet Brian Harman at The Open. If you don’t have that ticket waiting to cash, like me, you might want to get involved with a couple of MLB prop bets to add to your betslip this Sunday afternoon.
Here are my three favorite MLB prop bets for today. Let’s get right into the picks and the odds, because I’m backing a couple big right-handed bats and a lefty on the mound today.
Best MLB prop bets
- Christian Walker to hit a home run (+285)
- Austin Slater over 1.5 total bases (+135)
- Jesus Luzardo over 17.5 total outs (-155)
Christian Walker to hit a home run (+285)
Luke Weaver is on the mound for the Reds and he’s allowed 19 home runs in 16 starts this year including five across his last three starts. 11 of those 19 homers have come at home in Cincinnati where the Diamondbacks and Reds will play today. Walker has four home runs in July and is slugging .448 this month. Walker leads the team with 20 bombs and I think he could leave the yard today.
Austin Slater over 1.5 total bases (+135)
The San Francisco Giants haven’t been great against lefties this year and they’re facing a good one in Makenzie Gore today. However, they’ll be better now that Austin Slater is back from injury because Slater has a .948 OPS against lefties this year which leads the team. Slater has three home runs and two doubles along with a .413 on-base percentage.
Jesus Luzardo over 17.5 total outs (-155)
I don’t typically love props with this kind of juice, but this feels like a layup, so I’m willing to pay the price a little bit with -155 odds. Luzardo has a great matchup against the Rockies who are 28th in team OPS against lefties this year at .680. Luzardo is 8-5 with a 3.34 ERA and has only allowed six total runs across his last six starts. He’s going to cruise against the Rockies today.
