1st Inning UNDER 0.5 Runs NRFI (-104) - Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros

Several days ago in this very same matchup, I backed Texas Rangers starter Martín Pérez to deliver on his end of the no-run-first-inning (NRFI) against the Astros at home. He let me down; giving up just his seventh earned run all season the first time through the order.

I’ll back the Rangers’ left-hander to come through again in the early going, this time on the road in Houston. Pérez owns a 2.08 ERA in the first innings this year, and a 1.06 ERA the first time through the order despite the run given up his last time out.

Meanwhile, the Astros give the ball to young Hunter Brown, as another top 100 prospect for Houston gets the call up and makes his Big League debut at home. The Rangers, with no true scouting reports at the Major League level, may need some time to make adjustments to Brown, who can hit the upper 90’s with his fastball and mixes in a low 80’s curveball and high 80’s slider with plenty of break. He also struck out 134 batters in 106 innings in the Minors this year, so the stuff plays.

FanDuel offers us great odds on the NRFI today, and I’ll happily oblige. Ben Heisler

José Suarez OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (+106) - Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels

If you’re looking for a plus-money prop in Major League Baseball tonight, you’ll find few that present as much value as José Suarez to record at least six strikeouts against the Detroit Tigers.

Suarez increased his strikeout rate from 8.3 Ks per nine innings on the road, to 9.3 Ks per nine innings at home. He also has increased his strikeout rate from 7.3 K/9 in July, to 9.1 K/9 in August.

Not only that, but he gets to face a Tigers team tonight that has one of the highest strikeout rates in all of baseball. In fact, dating back to August 1st, the Tigers have the worst strikeout rate in the Majors, striking out on 26.8% of their plate appearances. - Iain MacMillan

Logan Webb UNDER 5.5 Hits Allowed (+110)

San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb has a tough matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, but I think there is value in one of his prop numbers in this game.

The UNDER on Webb’s hits allowed prop is at plus money, and I think it’s set a little too high for a starter who has limited opponents with a 1.18 WHIP this season.

Webb has allowed five or fewer hits in seven of his last 10 starts, including a five-hit game against the Dodgers back in July, Yes, Los Angeles touched him up for eight hits and six earned runs back on Aug. 1, but in his career, Webb has allowed just 36 hits in eight starts (40.2 innings) against the Dodgers.

I think there’s value in this at plus-money for a pitcher who generally keeps the base runners to a minimum. – Peter Dewey
