For this evening, both myself and BetSided’s Reed Wallach are taking two dominant strikeout pitcher props in home matchups tonight.

Spencer Strider UNDER 7.5 Strikeouts (-150) - Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros

I know our guy Joe Summers won’t stand for any Spencer Strider slander, but there’s a big reason most of the books are getting far more action on the under for the stud right-hander at home than on the over. In fact, many have already pushed the line down to either 7 or 6.5!

The right-hander has only hit this number once in his last five games; albeit by a wide margin with 13 against the Phillies at home back on August 2. However, this Astros’ lineup is a pain to strike out. The Astros trail only the Cleveland Guardians with a K% of 19.6% this season, while also walking 9% of their plate appearances; good for 8th-best in the league.

If there is a weakness for Strider, it’s that he can find himself in a few hitters’ counts, and have to exhaust himself working himself back in with all the swings-and-misses he can get. He’s only gone 6-plus innings one time in 14 starts this year, and while he’s more than capable of reaching 8 K’s, it’s not going to be easy vs. this particular lineup.

I’ll bite on the heavy juice and take a very nice number on the under. Ben Heisler

Dustin May OVER 5.5 Strikeouts (-105) - Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins

May is making his first start of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, and I expect him to come back in a big way against a helpless Marlins lineup.

The Fish are bottom 10 in strikeout rate since the beginning of August and May is a punchout pitcher by trade. Before suffering his elbow injury, the Dodgers starter was striking out nearly 14 batters per 9 innings.

May was stretched out to five innings in his rehab starts already, more than enough time to get over this mark against a minor league lineup that the Marlins are trotting out there day after day. For what it’s worth, he struck out 26 batters in 16 innings during his time with the Triple-A club.Reed Wallach
