Best MLB Prop Bets Today (Mad Max's Strikeout Prop a Monday Money Maker)

New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer looks to become only the sixth MLB pitcher to record 200 career wins before logging 100 losses.

“Mad Max” isn’t the only one going for win No. 200 tonight.

Max Scherzer gets the ball in Yankee Stadium tonight when the New York Mets travel across town to face the New York Yankees in the Bronx, hoping to take down a milestone victory, but the BetSided crew is closing in on 200 prop bet victories this season too!

Should our crew go at least 3-1 tonight, we’ll be right there with the Scherzer’s of the world (well, sort of).

Either way, the BetSided team puts our collective heads together each day to share our favorite MLB prop bets available on the board. Our top props, along with the best odds at their respective sportsbooks are listed below.

Max Scherzer OVER 6.5 Strikeouts (-150) - New York Mets at New York Yankees

Scherzer has cleared this mark in six of nine starts since returning from his injured oblique, and is in a great spot to go over it once more.

He will be facing a sputtering Yankees offense that is far off their record setting pace, hitting like a below average ball club in the month of August and second in strikeout rate, behind only the Detroit Tigers.

Scherzer is set to deal again against the Yankees and I see little reason why he can’t get to his average output given the matchup advantages. – Reed Wallach

Cole Ragans UNDER 3.5 Strikeouts (-140) - Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins

Few teams have been more disciplined at the plate this month than the Minnesota Twins. In August, they rank fourth in strikeout percentage, striking out on only 19.3% of their plate appearances. Only the Guardians, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals rank better in that stat.

Today, they face Cole Ragans, who’s making his fourth MLB start for the Rangers. He has only surpassed 3.5 strikeouts in one of his three starts to date.

He’s also given up 10 runs in his last 10.1 innings pitched. If the Twins can get to the rookie pitcher early, he may not even stay in the game long enough to reach this total. - Iain MacMillan

Paul Goldschmidt OVER 1.5 Total Bases (-105) - St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs

You’ve heard me talk ad nauseum regarding Goldschmidt's stupid-good numbers vs. left-handed pitching this season, but if you want a little more context, here it is.

The expected National League MVP is hitting .435 vs. left-handers this season, .449 on the road with a .538 weighted-on-base average, or wOBA. League average is somewhere around the .320 mark!

While Smyly has looked strong in August, it’s not enough for me to fade Goldschmidt on his own. While in a limited sample, he's hitting .400 against the Cubs lefty with two hits and two walks compared to just one strikeout.

Minus-odds is never fun especially when dealing with this kind of prop bet, but it still offers very good value relative to Goldschmidt's prowess against left-handers. I'm fully in.

Julio Urías to Record a Win (+105) – L.A. Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Dodgers lefty Julio Urías has been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball, and I think this is a favorable spot to back him at plus money on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Dodgers have won Urías’ last 11 starts, and he’s recorded a decision in 10 of them. It isn’t just the Dodgers’ offense that is helping Urías get wins, as he’s posted a 1.99 ERA over this stretch and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start since July 10.

The Brewers really struggle against lefties this season, ranking 25th in MLB in OPS. This is lining up perfectly for another Urias W. – Peter Dewey
