Orlando Magic vs. Atlanta Hawks: John Collins OVER 15.5 Points (-125)
Atlanta lost De’Andre Hunter to a wrist injury for at least the next few weeks, and I think that actually might be a good thing for the Hawks.
There were simply too many mouths to feed with Hunter, John Collins, Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Danilo Gallinari, Cam Reddish and Clint Capela all vying for shots in that offense.
Specifically, it was taking shots away from Collins who has been on fire to start this season. The Hawks big man is shooting 62.6 percent from two-point range and 39.0 percent from beyond the arc this season, but he’s only taking 11.7 shots per game.
With Hunter out, Collins has taken 22 and 15 shots in the last two games, scoring 26 and 19 points in those contests. More opportunities for Collins is a welcome sign for Atlanta, who upset the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
Give me all the John Collins we can handle tonight. -- Peter Dewey
Denver Nuggets vs. Dallas Mavericks: Nikola Jokic OVER 7.5 Assists (-115)
Listen, I get that Jokic's assists numbers are down, two dimes less than his MVP season, but this is the time to buy low on this prop. He has had nine or more assists in three straight games, and will be facing a Dallas defense that is bottom half of the league in defensive rating.
There's some concern about the Nuggets offense on the second half of a back-to-back, but Jokic only played 27 minutes in that one. I expect Jokic to play his typical minutes and be the center point of the offense, finding Denver shooters all over against a poor Dallas D. -- Reed Wallach
Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks: Malcolm Brogdon OVER 5.5 Assists (-125)
Malcolm Brogdon has averaged over 5.5 assists in each of the last three NBA seasons. He averaged 7.1 in 2019-20, 5.9 last year, and 6.8 through his first nine games this season. With tonight's total set at 5.5, the over seems like a great bet to make.
To further support the wager, the Knicks rank 26th in the NBA in opponent assists per game. Teams are recording an average of 25.6 assists per game against them. Brogdon has already faced New York once this season, recording seven assists against them on Nov. 3. -- Iain MacMillan
Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks: Domantas Sabonis OVER 10.5 REBs (-125)
We'll see if this still makes it to the page since I'm picking against Peter's Knicks, but Sabonis has had only two games in his last eight where he's gone below this number, and ironically, one came against the Knicks in a 111-98 win back on Nov. 3.
Since starting off 1-7, Indiana has come back to life winning five of their last seven, and both losses were on the road by just four against Portland, and three at Denver. They're playing much better team basketball despite Sabonis' usage rate remaining in the low to mid 20% range.
New York comes in only as a 3.5-point favorite with a low total of 213.5, indicating that even with improved pace, we'll see plenty of second chance opportunities and plays inside for Sabonis to clean up. 10.5 is nearly a full rebound below his average and this sets up as the type of matchup to have an almost guaranteed double-double. -- Ben Heisler
