Best NBA Prop Bets Today for Celtics vs. Hawks (Trae Young Predicted for Big Game With Marcus Smart Out)
By Peter Dewey
The Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks are two of the top three teams in the East, and they’ll play an intriguing matchup in primetime on Wednesday.
There are a couple of injuries on the Boston side, as guard Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon both are out for this game.
That has moved the line a bit in this game, and if you'd rather just back specific players, this is the place for you.
I have three prop bets to consider for the Hawks-C’s matchup tonight, including an intriguing OVER bet for Trae Young:
Celtics vs. Hawks Best NBA Prop Bets
- Derrick White OVER 12.5 Points
- Trae Young OVER 26.5 Points
- Jayson Tatum UNDER 5.5 Assists
Derrick White OVER 12.5 Points
With Smart and Brogdon out in this game for the Celtics, it should lead to a major role for guard Derrick White on both ends of the floor.
In two games with Boston that Smart has missed, White is averaging 13.5 points per game, scoring 18 in his last outing without Smart.
White, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard will likely split the ball-handling duties, which means White is going to see plenty of chances to score, whether he’s playing on the ball or not.
Trae Young OVER 26.5 Points
Trae Young should benefit in a big way from Smart and Brogdon sitting, and he may get matchups with Pritchard at points in this game.
Young is already one of the game’s best scorers, averaging 26.9 points per game this season, so he should be able to take advantage of a weaker Boston defense, that is already a bottom 10 unit in the NBA this season.
Jayson Tatum UNDER 5.5 Assists
In theory, Tatum should have MORE playmaking chances tonight with Smart out, but he’s cleared this number just two times in his last 10 games and is averaging only 3.9 assists per game on the season.
With a shorthanded roster, Boston may rely on Tatum to score the ball even more tonight, and it’s going to be hard for him to get easy looks for his teammates with a depleted cast around him.
5.5 is just too high for my liking against a Hawks team that is top 10 in the league in defensive rating.
