Best NFL Prop Bets for Chargers vs. Falcons in Week 9 (Fade Herbert Without his Weapons on the Field)

The Los Angeles Chargers head to the East Coast at 4-3 coming out of their bye week to face the 4-4 Atlanta Falcons. It looks like Keenan Allen will be out for LA, so the injuries just continue to mount. The Falcons are getting healthier with Cordarelle Patterson coming back into the fold, so will a few stars out and one coming back for this matchup, let’s take a look at the prop market to find some value. 

Best Props for Chargers vs. Falcons

  • Joshua Palmer Anytime TD
  • Justin Herbert Under 290.5 Pass Yards
  • Marcus Mariota Under 180.5 Pass Yards

Joshua Palmer Anytime TD

Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are both out, so Justin Herbert is going to have to throw the ball to somebody on the outside. It can’t be all dump offs to Austin Ekeler because he might be out too. If not he likely won’t be 100%. Palmer is a talented receiver and he had four touchdowns a year ago, but just one so far in his second season. The Falcons secondary is weak especially after AJ Terrell, so if Palmer gets a matchup with Casey Hayward Jr. it could be time for Herbert to finally take a shot. 

Justin Herbert Under 290.5 Pass Yards

Notice how I said time for Herbert to finally take a shot downfield. His average depth of target this season is 6.8 yards downfield. According to PFF he has only made one “big time throw” in the past three weeks. Joe Lombardi’s offense revolves around dump-offs and checkdowns. With Allen and Williams out I think Lombardi and Herbert will be even more reluctant to push the ball downfield. 

Marcus Mariota Under 180.5 Pass Yards

Brandon Staley refuses to allocate resources to stopping the run and ultimately it could be his downfall as a head coach. The Chargers get gashed in the run game weekly and if Arthur Smith is getting five yards a carry with Cordarelle Patterson then he will be happy to tell Mariota to hand it off 40 times.
