It's the last night before the NFL season officially begins, so let's place some MLB bets before our minds and hearts switch to football for the next few weeks.

What better way to get the juices flowing than by placing a few NRFI (no runs first inning) and YRFI (yes run first innings) bets? We don't have to wait long for them to cash, which makes them that much more exciting.

Let's dive into them, with the odds listed below coming from FanDuel Sportsbook:

Best NRFI Bet Today

Giants/Dodgers NRFI (-115)

Clayton Kershaw gets the start for the Dodgers in today's NL West battle, and he's pitched stellar in the first inning all season. In 16 starts this season, he's only allowed a run in the first inning twice.

Alex Cobb gets the start for the Giants, and he's had similar first inning numbers. He sports a 1.25 ERA in the first inning throughout the season, allowing only three earned runs in 21.2 first innings pitched.

I love this bet, especially given the fact we can get it at almost pick'em odds.

Best YRFI Bet Today

Nationals/Cardinals YRFI (-111)

It probably won't surprise you that the St. Louis Cardinals are ranked second in the Majors in first inning runs per game at 0.67, but the Washington National are surprisingly strong in this stat as well.

They rank 26th in total runs per game at a measly 3.79, but they're prone to start hot. They rank 13th in first inning runs per game at 0.50.

Jordan Montgomery gets the starts for the Cardinals today, and he's struggled at times in the opening frame. He sports a 3.33 ERA in the first inning, allowing 10 earned runs through 27 first innings pitched. He'; face Cory Abbott today, who has only pitched in the first inning four times this season, but his total ERA of 4.39 shows he can be scored on.
