Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today (Gallen and Singer Ready To Duel in Kansas City)
By Joe Summers
It's Wednesday, so we have a lovely MLB slate in store with games sprinkled throughout the day to carry us through the work hours into the night.
I love when this happens. It's much more fun sweating a No Run First Inning (NRFI) or Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) bet at your desk than sending an email, you know?
The BetSided team has you covered with previews for each matchup, but it's time to jump into these first inning wagers. Using odds from WynnBET Sportsbook, here are my favorite NRFI/YRFI bets of the day:
Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Marlins vs Athletics NRFI (-140)
The Miami Marlins are MLB's worst first inning offense, scoring in only 12.31% of their road games. Cole Irvin is a bright spot on an otherwise shameful Oakland Athletics season, amassing a 2.12 ERA at home. He should handle Miami's lineup without issue.
Jesús Luzardo should find success as well, against an Oakland team that scores in the first only 20% of the time at home. Luzardo has a 2.70 first inning ERA and just held the vaunted Dodgers to one run over 6.1 stellar innings. Trust each pitcher to toss up zeroes early, leaving these terrible offenses flailing.
Blue Jays vs Red Sox YRFI (-120)
Toronto Blue Jays' starter José Berríos has MLB's worst expected ERA (5.35) and he's even worse on the road, compiling a 6.82 ERA. He's horrendous, and his MLB Statcast Pitching Profile should have Boston Red Sox batters salivating:
The Red Sox rank 12th in OPS against right-handed pitchers this month and should take advantage of Berríos' road misery.
On the other end, Brayan Bello has a ton of promise, but struggled in his few major league starts. He's allowed eight first inning runs in just three starts, good for a 24.00 ERA, and the Blue Jays mash his most common pitch, the sinker. Between these two strong offenses and poor pitchers, I'm banking on the YRFI.
Diamondbacks vs Royals NRFI (-130)
This just might be today's best pitching matchup, as Zac Gallen and Brady Singer are both on a tear.
Gallen hasn't allowed a run in his last 21.2 innings pitched. He has a sparkling 1.57 ERA in the first inning, and Kansas City ranks just 24th in OPS against right-handed pitchers this month, so Gallen won't have much trouble maintaining his excellent run.
Singer is showing why he could be the centerpiece of the Royals' rotation moving forward, allowing two runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts. He's allowed just three runs in the first inning over 17 starts, while the Diamondbacks score an early run in only 20.81% of their road contests.
These odds should be much larger in my opinion, and we're getting fantastic value to back two stellar pitchers.
