Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today (Guardians vs. Royals Among Three Matchups to Target)
By Joe Summers
With a loaded MLB slate on tap for this afternoon, there's no shortage of value on the board today.
As always, the BetSided team has previews for each matchup filled with actionable betting content. While you're utilizing those to build out your bet slip at WynnBET Sportsbook, I've got a few No Run First Inning (NRFI) and Yes Run First Inning (YRFI) wagers to add to the discussion.
Thanks to the odds from WynnBET, let's get into it.
Here are my favorite NRFI/YRFI bets of the day:
Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Guardians vs Royals NRFI (-110)
This is an easy bet for me, as Plesac is on fire while the Guardians' lineup is sputtering. Plesac has seven consecutive quality starts, amassing a 2.14 ERA in that stretch. He's allowed a first-inning run just once in his last six road starts, and Kansas City's lineup musters an early run in only 24.39% of its home games.
Plesac already limited the Royals to one run over six innings this season and I expect another strong performance.
On the other end, Zack Greinke has a 2.14 ERA at home and the struggling Guardians score in the first inning in under 29% of their road contests. Trust each pitcher to carry us through a scoreless opening frame.
Athletics vs Astros YRFI (-105)
When I look at this game, the first thing that jumps out is how little either starting pitcher can be trusted. Jake Odorizzi looked awful in his first start back from injury, giving up nine hits and five runs in four innings to the Royals. He's got a horrific 9.39 ERA in the first inning while ranking in the 18th percentile in expected batting average.
Meanwhile, Cole Irvin has been strong at home but has a 6.43 first-inning ERA. The Astros have the fourth-best OPS against left-handed pitchers over the last three weeks, and Irvin's MLB Statcast Pitching Profile is far from inspiring:
Both Houston and Oakland score first-inning runs at high rates (though surprisingly in Oakland's case) and with two lackluster pitchers, I foresee another early run today.
Giants vs Padres NRFI (-125)
Each lineup is in a serious rut. The Giants have been terrible with situational hitting all season, while the Padres scored two or fewer runs in seven of their last nine games.
Alex Wood and MacKenzie Gore are both more than capable of throwing a scoreless first inning, especially against these offenses. San Francisco ranks 26th in OPS against left-handed pitchers over the last two weeks, and San Diego isn't much better at 24th.
Neither team scores first-inning runs at a rate over 30%, and I fully expect Gore to shut the Giants down. That leaves this bet up to Alex Wood and the Padres' lineup. At -125 odds, I'm happy to back Wood as San Diego continues to sputter.
