Best Wild Card Team to Win the Stanley Cup
The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin tonight, and it promises to bring just as much action as the NHL postseason usually does.
In the format that was implemented just a few years ago, each conference has three playoff teams from each division, and then two wild cards. The four wild card teams this year are; Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators.
Will we see a wild card team win it all? Here are their odds via WynnBET:
NHL Wild Card Teams Odds to Win Stanley Cup
- Bostin Bruins +2000
- Washington Capitals +4000
- Dallas Stars +5000
- Nashville Predators +7500
Which Wild Card Team Can Win the Stanley Cup?
The Boston Bruins have the shortest odds amongst all wild card teams to win the Stanley Cup, and it's for good reason. In my opinion, they're the only ones that can get it done.
The Bruins are completely okay with being a wild card team. It allows them to get put on the easier side of the Eastern Conference bracket, and they won't have to face a divisional opponent until the Eastern Conference Final. They have a tough first round matchup against the Hurricanes, but WynnBET thinks it'll be a close series and they have the Bruins set as slight -115 underdogs.
The Capitals, on the other hand, got the short end of the stick. Not only do they have to play the number one overall seed in the East in the first round, but if they manage to pull of the upset, they'll need to take on the winner of the Lightning and the Maple Leafs. They have the toughest path in the Eastern Conference, and they have plenty of holes to deal with including subpar goaltending.
The Western Conference is extremely top-heavy, so I don't like either wild card team to go on a run. The Dallas Stars had a negative goal differential this season, and the Nashville Predators lost their all-star goalie, Juuse Saros, to injury. I'd be SHOCKED if either of them even make their series close.
