Best World Series Anytime Home Run Picks for Phillies vs. Astros Game 1

Jeremy Pena (+600)

There’s some value on the ALCS MVP, Jeremy Pena, to go yard in the first game of the World Series.

Pena hit a pair of clutch homers against the New York Yankees in the ALCS, as well as the game-winner in the 18-inning marathon against the Seattle Mariners in the ALDS.

Aaron Nola was not sharp in his last postseason start, and the Phillies have a worse bullpen than Houston. I like taking an Astro to go deep, so why not take the hottest one in Pena. – Peter Dewey

Kyle Schwarber (+350)

If you’re going to bet on a member of the Phillies to hit a home run, be sure to target someone who does well against right-handed pitchers, since they'll be facing righty, Justin Verlander, in Game 1.

Kyle Schwarber’s slugging goes up from .386 against lefties, to .566 against righties this season. 36 of his 46 home runs have also been against righties.

If anyone’s going to hit a dinger on Verlander, it might just be Schwarber. – Iain MacMillan

Jean Segura (+1300)

Segura left Philadelphia for Houston in FULL UNIFORM! How do you not throw a dart at this guy?

In all seriousness, Segura is actually the only player on both rosters to have a home run against either of tonight's starting pitchers. Lifetime vs. Verlander in 14 at-bats, Segura has four hits, two of which have gone for either extra bases or have left the yard.

He has by far and away the most plate appearances of anyone against either starter, and with the short porch available in Houston, all it takes is one missed location from Verlander and it's gone.

Remember, Verlander's World Series struggles are a thing in his career.

Rhys Hoskins (+420)

This is about players that can go yard, not players who can hit for contact, which is why I'm following Hoskins to the counter. The Phillies slugger is hitting .182 this postseason but has five home runs in 44 at bats.

He has never faced Justin Verlander, but the likely Cy Young winner has allowed a home run in each postseason start. The Phillies are raking at the plate so I'll use Hoskins to catch Verlander, who hasn't been as sharp with the long layoffs. -- Reed Wallach

Kyle Tucker (+440)

Tucker has already hit a home run this postseason, and he’ll start the October Classic with one as well. Aaron Nola gave up two home runs his last time out, and some of those struggles will linger. Tucker hit a majority of his home runs against righties this season, and all of them came against the starter.

If Nola struggles a little bit, Tucker will cash in early and get the Astros off to a roaring start. – Donnavan Smoot
