Bet The Over On Tyrod Taylor Prop Bets Against the Lowly Jets Defense
By Matt De Saro
Week 12 features a battle for the bottom with a pair of 2-8 teams duking it out. The New York Jets and Houston Texans both come off losses and are dealing with some not-so-small quarterback issues.
After winning, then losing, then winning back the starting QB job, Tyrod Taylor gets his third start in a row for the Texans in Week 12. If the stats on the Jets’ defense are to be believed, he should enjoy a pretty easy game against the worst defense in the NFL.
This brings into light a couple of prop bets that we can take a look at for Taylor. While he is not a top QB by any stretch of the imagination, it doesn't take much to beat up on the Jets.

Tyrod Taylor Passing Yards Total 225.5 (OVER -125/UNDER -115)
When I said above that the Jets are the worst defensive team in the NFL, I wasn’t speaking in hyperbole. The Jets are dead last in opponent points per game, yards per game, yards per play, and touchdowns per game.
Since returning from a hamstring injury in Week 9, I'll admit Taylor hasn’t looked brilliant. In his first game back he went 24-for-43 with 240 yards and three interceptions. It was a “bad game” from a football standpoint but not necessarily from a prop-betting standpoint. However, in two other games, he fell well short of the total and threw for less than 125 yards including 107 yards last week against the Titans.
So far this season Taylor has two games that went over 225 yards. Hist week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars (291 yards) and Week 9 against the Dolphins (240 yards). Both of those teams have very poor defenses, but not quite as bad as the Jets. This bodes well for Taylor as it proves he is good enough to take advantage of poor passing defenses. I think the Jets roll over and take it again this week on defense and Taylor hits this over before the final whistle.
Tyrod Taylor Rushing Yards Total 21.5 (OVER -125/UNDER -115)
While it's true that the Jets' rushing defense is better than its passing defense, that is like saying that old salmon smells better than old trout. It is not better, just less bad. The Jets are 27th in the league in rushing yards per carry and 29th in total rushing yards allowed per game at 132.0.
At the age of 32, Taylor isn’t as mobile as he once was but he has gone over 21.5 in three of his four games this season. Oddly, the Jets lead the NFL in rushing yards allowed to opposing quarterbacks with 66 on 32 attempts. I think this is more of a byproduct of teams not needing to scramble much against the Jets.
Let’s hope Taylor has a few designed runs or gets pushed out of the pocket a couple of times on Sunday.
