We're a month into the NHL season and the standings aren't quite looking the way we all expected.

The New Jersey Devils sit in first in the Metropolitan Division at 12-3, the Winnipeg Jets lead the Central Division at 9-4-1, and the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche, are only 8-5-1 through their first 14 games.

That's good news for sportsbooks receiving a ton of bets on the Avs to win their second straight Stanley Cup. In fact, at BetMGM, Colorado has the both the most tickets and most money on them to win the 2023 Stanley Cup.

As a result, they're still listed as the betting favorites to win it all at +475. Let's dive into full list of latest odds to win the Cup.

Odds to Win the Stanley Cup

Avalanche Stanley Cup Favorites Despite Slow Start

The Avalanche are still favored to go back-to-back, but their odds have dropped at BetMGM from +400, down to +475. So, if you still think they're the team to beat, now might be a good time to bet on them.

There's no doubt the Avalanche will return to the postseason, but if their statistics are any indication, they aren't the same team they were last year. Through their first 14 games, they rank outside of the top 10 in the league in CORSI%, expected goals for, and expected goals against.

There are likely two big factors for that. One being that their captain, Gabriel Landeskog, has yet to play a game this season. He had arthroscopic knee surgery in October, and will likely be out for another six to eight weeks.

Another is their offseason loss of forward Nazem Kadri. He gave the Avs something that a lot of other teams in the NHL don't have, a top-tier second line center. Without him, they can't create the matchup advantages they were able to a season ago.

Can the Avalanche turn things around? Yes. Should you bet on them to win the Stanley Cup? I don't think so.

Until they prove they can play at the same level they did last season, I would stay far away from them at their current price. There is plenty of better value on the board.

Their next game is against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, November 17th.
