Are the New York Jets the sleeper on the NFL entering the 2022 season?

The public certainly thinks so, as bettors at Caesars Sportsbook are wagering heavily on New York in different capacities. The Jets have received the most bets to win the AFC East and the second-most bets to make the playoffs at Caesars.

Right now, the team is +2200 to win the AFC East and +650 to make the postseason at Caesars.

Should you hop on the Jets train? Or is the public just obsessed with the long odds New York is getting?

I think there are too many reasons to stay away from the Jets in the 2022 season in either of these markets. First off, the Jets play in the same division as the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills, and they finished in last in the division in five of the last six seasons.

New York would need to dethrone two playoff teams from last season to make the playoffs, and we really don't know what the Jets will get from second year quarterback Zach Wilson. Mekhi Becton is already done for the season, and asking the Jets to make the leap from worst to first is a lot, even at +2200 odds.

I'd even stay away from New York making the playoffs, as the AFC is loaded with potentially four playoff teams in the AFC West and three contenders in the AFC North. Unless the Jets roll through the division (which is highly unlikely), they're on the outside looking in to the playoff picture.

For a sprinkle, maybe you can take the Jets to join the public, but this screams stay away. Until we see Wilson take a step, the Jets are an unknown commodity in the futures market.
