Biggest Winners and Losers from Monday Night Football Rams vs. 49ers
Week 10 of the NFL season has wrapped up with the 49ers (+3.5) upsetting the Rams on Monday Night Football.
The betting public was all over the Rams ahead of tonight's game, with 74.9% of the spread money backing Los Angeles. Many people believed that the Rams would bounce back after a dud of a game on Sunday Night Football in Week 9, but that wasn't the case.
Let's break down the biggest winners and losers from tonight's NFC West showdown. Any odds listed are via WynnBET Sportsbook.
Rams vs. 49ers Winners
49ers Defense
The 49ers defense showed up in a big way, and re-established themselves as one of the top defenses in the NFL. They set the tone for the night by intercepting Matt Stafford on the Rams first two offensive possessions, with the second one resulting in a pick six.
They kept the Los Angeles offense, which is arguably the best in the NFL, to only 271 yards and a single touchdown. The 49ers defense is back in a big way.
Phil Mickelson
Phil Mickelson only gets better with age. He a fantastic guest on ESPN's Manning Cast, constantly moving the conversation along and asking fantastic questions to Peyton and Eli.
Not only that, but he brought up the Manning Curse, and joked that he wasn't competing in this week's PGA Tour event, the RSM Classic, in order to avoid the curse.
Jimmy Garoppolo
The 49ers quarterback situation was a giant question mark all offseason after they drafted Trey Lance third overall in the NFL Draft. Even at the start of the season, the 49ers bounced back and forth between the two quarterbacks due to nagging injuries and neither player taking command of the role.
That question no longer exists. Jimmy G has firmly established himself as the starter, and did exactly what he needed to do tonight to help the 49ers win. He went 15-for-19 for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He doesn't need to throw for 300 yards for the 49ers offense to be successful, he just needs to be effective and not turn the ball over. That's what he did tonight.
Rams vs. 49ers Losers
Matthew Stafford
Matthew Stafford, who was an early frontrunner to win NFL MVP, will see his odds fall even further after a second straight poor performance. He went 26-of-41 for 207 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
While he clearly has more talent than Jared Goff, his decision making is sometimes just as questionable as the former Rams QB. His MVP odds will likely drop out of the top five after tonight.
Good NFL Teams
Is any team in the NFL good this season? Maybe it's recency bias, but the results over the past few weeks have been beyond confusing. Every time a team looks good, they start playing poorly. Every time a team has exposed themselves as a dumpster fire, they find a way to win a game.
The Titans lost to the Jets, the Bills lost to the Jaguars, the Rams have all of a sudden looked bad in two straight weeks, the list goes on. Just take a peak at the AFC right now. Tennessee is the only team with only two losses, while there's around a million teams that sit at 5-4.
I honestly have no idea who the top Super Bowl contenders are as of right now, because as soon as I name a few teams, I'm sure they'll lose next week.
