The Carolina Hurricanes are tied with the New York Rangers for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division, but they have four games in hand. They can firmly establish themselves as the Metro kings by continuing the hot streak they're currently on. They're 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, and now face the reeling Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games, and have fallen out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. They need to win, and win in a hurry if they want to get back in the hunt for a postseason berth. The Hurricanes are 2-0 against them so far this season.

Let's take a look at the odds via WynnBET for tonight's Metropolitan Division showdown.

Blue Jackets vs. Hurricanes Prediction and Pick

If you're a fan of advanced analytics, then you love the Carolina Hurricanes. They rank first in the NHL in CORSI%, which is an advanced statistic used to measure shot attempt differential while at even strength play.

With that being said, the odds are too lopsided in this one for me to back a side on the moneyline. Instead, I'm going to back the OVER 6 at -120. Both teams rank in the top 10 in the NHL in shooting percentage, with the Blue Jackets ranking seventh (10.53%) and the Hurricanes ranking ninth (10.39%).

The last meeting between these two teams, which occurred on New Year's Day, saw a total of 11 goals scored when the Canes won 7-4. I think we're going to see a similar result tonight.

Pick: OVER 6 (-120)
