Blue Jays vs. Rays Prediction and Odds for Tuesday, August 2 (Matt Chapman Is Carrying Toronto)
By Josh Yourish
There is a ton of intrigue in the AL East right now. The Boston Red Sox are falling out of contention, the New York Yankees are loading up for October, Baltimore pushing competing off to next year, and the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays vying for the second spot in the best division in baseball.
Tuesday night, Tampa hosts Toronto at the Trop for the first of a quick two-game series with the Rays trailing the Jays by three games for the top wild card spot.
Kevin Gausman takes the mound for Toronto and he is opposed by Drew Rassmussen.

Blue Jays vs. Rays Prediction and Pick
Last night, Matt Chapman hit his 20th homer for the Blue Jays and five of those 20 have come in the past 10 games. Chapman is hot and he’s led his team to eight wins in those 10 games. The past week of play, Chapman’s OPS is 1.748 and he is getting on base over half the time.
On July 9, Chapman’s OPS was just .700 and it didn’t seem as though he was living up to the value the Blue Jays parted with in the offseason to acquire him. Now, his OPS is .808 and he is a force in the middle of the Toronto lineup. His defensive metrics are not holding up to the four-time Gold Glove level defense he played in Oakland, but his bat is now a huge plus for the Blue Jays.
With Chapman and an advantage on the mound tonight, the Blue Jays look like a good bet as a road-favorite. They are 18-15 in those situations this season, one of 20 MLB teams with a winning record as a road favorite, and they are 10th in margin of victory at 1.5 runs.
Pick: Blue Jays -133
