Blue Jays vs. Yankees Prediction and Odds for Sunday, August 21 (Will New York Stop the Bleeding?)
By Reed Wallach
So, the New York Yankees? Will this team that once was pushing for the best record in baseball history be swept by the second place Blue Jays as they sit 10 games under .500 over the past six weeks?
It's highly concerning to be a Yankees fan right now as the team falls way off the pace for the best record in the American League. Can the Yankees find a win with Nestor Cortes on the mound, or will Alek Manoah overpower a slumping New York lineup?
Here are the odds for Sunday's finale:
Blue Jays vs. Yankees Odds, Run Line and Total
Run Line:
- Blue Jays: +1.5 (-210)
- Yankees: -1.5 (+170)
Moneyline:
- Blue Jays: +110
- Yankees: -120
Total:
- 7.5 (Over -115/-105)
Blue Jays vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick
You can't bet the Yankees right now. While the pitching has been fine and Cortes has brought his All-Star form over hast last handful of starts, the offense can't get anything going. The team is 25th in wRC+ since the start of August as the team is in one of the worst ruts for a team of their stature in recent history.
The Yankees have a worse record than all teams in the big leagues in August except for the Oakland Athletics and Washington Nationals, the two worst teams in baseball.
Manoah has the form to match Cortes on the mound, sporting much improved control this season, walking one less batter per nine innings than his rookie campaign. Not to mention, he has had success against the Bronx Bombers this season, making three starts and allowing five total runs across 17.1 innings.
The Blue Jays are quietly starting to make this a race in the American League East, seven games behind the Yankees with several weeks of baseball left, and I think they cut this to six by the end of Sunday. At an underdog price, I'll keep betting whoever is playing the Yankees.
LEAN: Blue Jays ML (+110)
