The Toronto Blue Jays started off the season as the team to beat in the American League. But after getting beat up a little by the surging Yankees last week, the Jays find themselves in third place in the AL East.

The Blue Jays get a chance at revenge during their mid-week series with the Bombers that kicked off yesterday. In the lead-up to this series, the Jays were 2-5 straight up in their previous seven games with a 1-2 record against the Yankees.

The Yankees, on the other hand, might be the hottest team in baseball over the last couple of weeks. They won 11 straight games between April 22 and May 3 while going 9-2 ATS. New York has not lost a series since the Orioles, of all teams, took two of three in the second week of the season.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees Prediction and Pick

A big reason for the Blue Jays' recent cold streak has been a lack of quality pitching. They are giving up a ton of runs in their losses, and barely winning when they are victorious. Toronto entered this series on a 3-10 run ATS thanks to those pitching issues.

Jose Berrios was a big part of that problem in his last start against the Guardians last week. He gave up six earned runs in 4 ⅔ innings. Perhaps the most glaring issue however was his strikeout to walk ratio of 0:1. He allowed 22 balls to be put into play in 23 at-bats resulting in eight hits.

Conversely, Jamieson Taillon has been a big reason why the Yankees are faring so well lately. Taillon hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in a game all year and enters Wednesday afternoon with a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. He pitched very well in his last game against the Blue Jays with one run in six innings with four strikeouts and zero walks.

This feels like a bigger pitching mismatch than the numbers suggest and I’m going to take a shot on the Yankees to win big.

Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+175)
