The Boston Celtics have been shaky in the early portion of the season, but a win tonight can get them back to .500. Tonight’s game will be the second half of back-to-back games against the Washington Wizards for Boston. The Celtics lost the first matchup at home, 116-107, and will travel into D.C. to get some revenge.

Marcus Smart will miss this contest due to illness, so Dennis Schröder should get plenty of time in the Boston backcourt tonight.

Washington has been strong out of the gate, defeating the Atlanta Hawks in Thursday’s matchup, 122-111. The Hawks were 4-point favorites in that contest.

Eventually, when center Thomas Bryant and forward Rui Hachimura return, the Wizards will be even stronger. Washington may be a quietly emerging threat in the Eastern Conference.

Both Boston and Washington move quickly and use lots of possessions and currently sit inside the top-10 in the NBA in pace. There should be plenty of points in this one.

With Marcus Smart on the shelf, Schröder will be manning the point, and that could be a problem with ball management. Schröder has committed more turnovers than Smart in less time on the court and will need to contain the offense tonight.

The Wizards have been better in both offensive and defensive efficiency than the Celtics, and I don’t think that changes tonight.

Also, Spencer Dinwiddie has been a solid fit in Washington’s backcourt and returns tonight after sitting out against Atlanta on Thursday.

I’m taking the Wizards on the spread at -2 and on the moneyline at -125.
