The Atlanta Braves pulled off the upset against the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the World Series, but they lost starter Charlie Morton to a broken fibula in the process.

It was a gutsy performance from the veteran, and the win moved the Braves to -150 favorites to take the World Series title at WynnBET

Tonight, Atlanta will send lefty Max Fried to the mound against the Astros’ Jose Urquidy. The Astros are slight favorites in the latest odds, but the Braves have a chance to take a commanding lead in the series before it heads to Atlanta.

Braves vs. Astros Odds, Run Line and Total

Run Line:

  • Braves -1.5 (+160)
  • Astros +1.5 (-210)

Moneyline:

  • Braves: +106
  • Astros: -114

Total:

  • 8.5 (Over -110/Under -110)

Astros vs. Braves Prediction and Pick

I thought that the Astros would take Game 1 with their best healthy pitcher, Framber Valdez, on the mound, but I was wrong. I’ll wear it.

Tonight, I’m going to back the underdog Braves at +106 on the moneyline to take a 2-0 series lead.

Fried was roughed up for five runs by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLCS, but he had thrown 12.0 innings of two-run ball in the postseason prior to that outing. I think this is a spot for him to bounce back, and I don’t trust Urquidy, who allowed six runs (five earned) in 1.2 innings in the ALCS against Boston.

This will be Urquidy’s second start of the postseason, and like the rest of Houston’s rotation, he hasn’t shown the ability to give the team any length. After Valdez was chased yesterday, I think Atlanta either gets to Urquidy or a tired Houston bullpen tonight.
